I am writing the text for this post retroactively (today is April 3, 2025) because I have made it my goal this month to go back and write the text that accompanies all of the posts I have not yet finished since moving to version two of my site.
This monthly challenge is part of a more extensive New Year's resolution that my wife and I made. For me, January’s challenge was to do 100 pushups daily, and February’s challenge was to perform a cumulative five-minute plank each day. For her, it was to prepare a lobster dinner in January (a big success) and to practice Japanese on Duolingo for fifteen minutes every day. There are other items on our collaborative resolutions list, such as reading and fitness goals, but the monthly challenge is probably the most enjoyable part.
There were numerous highlights in February. Notably, there was the Krispy Kreme challenge, which involved a 2.5-mile run, eating a dozen donuts (which I couldn't do), and running 2.5 miles back. Additionally, we made a trip to Tampa to say goodbye to friends and family before my upcoming departure for Japan. I had packed away most of my photography gear by this point, so I only had my Ricoh GRIIIx for photography this month.
One of my favorite features of the Ricoh is the in-camera multiple exposure. I took photos of a friend’s DJ set and heavily utilized this feature along with the in-camera diffuser that comes with the HDF models. The diffuser, neon lights, and low ambient lighting, combined with the double exposure, made for some interesting shots that I was quite happy with.
I managed to get some interesting shots by slowing down the shutter speed anywhere from 2.5 seconds to 1/25 seconds and then rotating or dragging the camera and stopping on my friend for a split second, giving the shot a light trail effect.
